  • Happy taste buds, body and soul.

My lunchtime visit here was both enjoyable and uplifting and I left feeling like I had just given my taste buds, body and soul a lovely gift. Honey Hive's uniqueness lies in it's ability to create a good variety of flavour-packed dishes at affordable prices whilst retaining a focus on the healing power of food. Entirely vegan -with the exception of the Honey Health Shake, which is still a popular carry over from when the venture was vegetarian (can be made with Agave syrup also)- Small, Medium or Large Plate options comprised of hot dishes such as Creamy Chickpea Pasta, Janet's Sweet Potato Bake, Bean Stew with Rice, Cous Cous, Quinoa, Raw Salads and Fried Plantain. I had a medium plate (good-sized serving) which had Calallo and Chickpeas, Wild Rice, Louisiana Veg Gumbo (which I loved the most), 3 Raw Salads and Fried Plantain, with a Fresh Carrot, Apple and Ginger Juice. £10 "Soothies" such as the "Migraine Miracle" are (as the names suggest) ailment specific. Those with allergies are catered for with sensitivity. Raw ingredients are specially imported from around the world. Ingredients for health teas, such as Moringa, are sold along with Organo coffee (which is infused with Ganoderma- said to have incredible healing properties). There were several cakes also available (the Red Velvet being the most popular). Fresh juices were made to order. Discounts are available for holders of The Vegan Society, The Lewisham Vegan Society, The Lewisham Card and Student Card. In addition, the Honey Hive Loyalty Card rewards regular customers with Free Triple Layer cake and Small Plate Meals after a certain amount of visits. Take away options also available. Credit Cards accepted for orders over £10. Established in 2011 by partnership Raa and Simone, this venue combines a wonderful multi-cultural shop (with literature, jewellery and artefacts) with an art gallery, holistic treatment rooms and the cafe. The atmosphere was calm and there was some nice chilled music playing. Raa specialises in creating root furniture, and the self-built interior comprised of 75% reclaimed materials The cafe was within easy walking of Sydenham Overground Station, close to the 75 Bus Stop from Lewisham and right next door to the 5 star health food shop "Well Being". Honey Hive Vegan cafe unites the community with healthy and tasty food in a chilled, colourful and rustic environment. On Friday nights there is a cycle of events such as Abule- Jazz and Poetry and Fine Dinning.
