  • A great restaurant in a very special setting

I already loved this restaurant before I even got there. An old GDR (=East German) train restaurant car full of original details including various signs in German and Russian! And in it an all-vegan restaurant! The place is in walking distance from Rotterdam Central Station (use the back exit). I have been there twice so far, once for lunch and once for dinner. The lunch was quite nice, I had a sandwich with marinated tempeh, "veganaise" (=vegan mayo) and salad and for dessert a pear pie. My friends had quiche which looked good as well. For dinner, there is always only one 3-course meal. I got there on a nasty rainy autumn evening and found great food, inspired by Dutch recipes and seasonal local veggies: first a pea soup, then various autumn vegetables nicely prepared and for dessert an apple pie. Perfect for the season - and the weather! I heard from friends that they were less enthusiastic because when they were here they were not to keen on the dishes offered and there was no choice. Indeed it would be great to be able to choose between 2 dishes. But the evening I was there I loved what I got (OK, maybe not too much the Spanish salsify, but there was just a little portion of it and that's more a personal thing). And for sure I will get back soon!
