- Cheaper than Whole Foods
We were pleased when Trader Joe's finally came to this neighborhood, bringing their low-cost (but sometimes high-quality) food as an alternative to more expensive places like Whole Foods. While TJ's doesn't specialize in organics, they do carry a fair amount, including both produce and dry goods. They usually have organic kale, salad greens, broccoli, tomatoes, and other staples. The downside is that all of their organic produce is prepackaged in plastic so it isn't possible to save plastic by bringing your own bags for produce. In the dry goods departments, we like their organic blue corn ships and their organic salsa. Just be sure to read labels carefully when shopping at Trader Joe's, because not everything is as salubrious as it might look at first glance.
