  • Historic gem on a pretty park

This place has an incredible history which goes back to 1933 (the owner took the time to tell me a bit about how her mother-in-law opened the first version of it with a German woman in 1933, on Calle Artículo 123, and how it moved to the current location in the late 40's). As noted, it is on the second floor and easy to walk past if you're not looking for – it's basically on the corner of the park and Dolores. The restaurant is a bit on the small side, but some of the window seats have beautiful views over Parque San Juan. While the food as served can be a bit bland – many customers have eaten here over the decades at the advice of a doctor who advised something like a "bland vegetarian diet with no salt" or something – they also have hot sauce and other condiments you can use to adjust to taste. They tend towards dishes with fresh vegetables and tortillas/tostadas instead of the soy/gluten meats which are popular in some other restaurants. Not the place to go for a fancy meal, but friendly, cheap, and radiating Mexico City vegetarian history. Go and support this family business at least once during your visit!
