- Friendly organic cafe
Location: On the main road about 2 minutes walk from the JR railway station in Tofukuji. Turn right when leaving the station, and you'll pass it on the way to the Tofukuji temple. The cafe is on the ground floor of a renovated traditional wood house, and has large signs/chalkboards on the street "Organic Cafe Cocohana." Food: This Korean-style menu had a choice of two vegetarian rice bowl lunch sets, which were made vegan for us by omitting the eggs. The bibimbap, served in a sizzling hot platter, was delicious and full of veggies over sticky rice. Service was amazingly quick, and there is a picture menu with English captions, though no detailed descriptions of the dishes. Several types of coffee, tea and cake on the menu (as well as non-veg meals) and the mysterious "formed green tea" drink-desserts. I didn't try them, but they looked interesting. Seating is at Western- style tables or tatami.
