  • Standard Green Way chain venue

"Green Way" is the largest vegetarian food bar chain in Eastern and Central Europe with a largely standardized offer and visual identity. It follows the 'bar' concept: order and pay upfront, fetch and return plates and cutlery yourself - basically this leads to more of a cantine atmosphere and affordable prices. This is not the place to celebrate or propose in, it rather suits the needs of those on the lookout for a quick lunch, snack or dinner. You don't dwell here, you swallow. The food on offer is best when it doesn't rest too long on your tongue either, for it gets boring quite quickly. Cooked to not offend anyone it's harmless, somewhat bland, filling and consistent in its (very mediocre) quality. The repertoire consists of some 30 dishes (soups, salads, breakfast, main, desserts), of which a selection of 25 is available each day. Off-menu soups, one main dish and 1-2 desserts vary on a daily basis. 9 positions from the regular menu are vegan, but never are there more than 6 available on a single day (and that includes salads, soups, and desserts) and those are usually limited to 3-4 remotely indian dishes, enchilada, veg-burger, and such. Vegan, fair trade, gluten-free, and eco dishes are labeled. So are those suitable for children and diabetics. Not a single plant-based milk available - they are still comparatively expensive in Poland, and yet, almost all the other places in town offer them. No veganization of vegetarian dishes. No alcohol. The far better "Pod Norenami" and "Karma" are only a few seconds away, located further down the Krupnicza street. But maybe they cater to a different clientele. This place will fill your belly, not your heart. This is not what makes people go veg, it is what let's them know that a grey, everyday life is possible for veg*ans too. I am reluctant to applaud this, but it's an inevitable part of a sub-culture going mainstream. And in this sense the "Green Ways" are very important. Doesn't mean that it's important to eat there. Eat there every day - or never at all.
