  • staff lack knowledge, avoid if you're vegan

Tonight I was supposed to be having dinner at a local restaurant for a friends leaving meal. I expressed concerns about vegan food and my friend very kindly called the establishment and was assured that the veggie burger could be ordered vegan as long as you specify no cheese and opt for the gluten free bun. I also called (not knowing my friend has) and was told the same thing. All sorted. I wasn't especially looking forward to the food but was happy that there was a vegan option. When I arrived I ordered as I had been instructed. About 20 minutes later the waitress came over to ask if I was vegan because the bun contained egg. I explained what I had been told about over the phone and asked her to please cancel my order as I didn't want to just have the patty. She returned a while later with said patty and said it was on the house, but I said again I didn't want to eat the patty on its own (mushroom and spinach, I wasn't keen to begin with). I decided to sit at the bar area whilst everyone ate, feeling awkward to a) be surrounded by meat and b) not be eating. In this time I spoke to the manager to complain about being given misinformation he was incredibly insincere with his apology and I didn't feel he was particularly concerned about my complaint. In the end I left. Additionally, for my friends who did eat, the service was terrible. The waitress admitted she had forgotten to put some of the orders through meaning people ate at different times. They were made to wait after asking for the bill and in the end had to pay individually at the bar as it never materialised and they wanted to leave.
