- Delicious, friendly, and excellent value!
This cafe/snack bar is a delightful vegetarian place selling tortilla-style wraps with a range of delicious fillings. These include chickpeas, falafel, a lentil dish, three different kinds of aubergine dish, as well as the usual salad veg and herbs, and a variety of condiments, pepper and oils. The owner/staff I spoke to was very friendly and helpful, speaking good English. She explained which fillings were vegan and though I like to think I would've guessed correctly if she hadn't been around. The only difficulty I had was finding the cafe, which is on the Nailbey Sokak, but much further up than is shown on the map. The address was correct and passers-by pointed me in the right direction. I pointed this out to staff and maybe they will have corrected it before you come to visit. The meal was very cheap and very nice and filling, costing only 4 Turkish lira (about 2 Euros). The Asian side of Istanbul is well worth a visit, or even a place to base your visit to Istanbul. It is 20 minutes by ferry, which costs about a Euro, to Sultanahmet (the heart of the old city) and yet it is free of all the touristy bustle that you have on the European side of the Bosphorus. Hotels are about half the price and the whole area is a much more genuine feel to it.
