We were sad that we could only spend one night at Loaf. The owners were so welcoming and lovely, they have created a beautiful haven. The comfortable room was done perfectly despite being on the small side, and we appreciated the fact that all the (very good quality) furniture and fittings were reclaimed or recycled. The views looked out onto the gardens, replete with bird feeders and snowdrops. Oh and Karen had left us not only baked goodies, but generously a book as well (we hadn't realised it was Book Giving Week). The shared bathroom was huge and well equipped. Breakfast was utterly delicious (I had a stack of filled savoury pancakes with too many ingredients to list, & my other half had a full cooked breakfast). Good portions too. Guests eat in the conservatory which looks out over green countryside, and Karen and Mike are full of lovely stories about their local friendly wild visitors - hares, rabbits, pheasants, voles, deer, a buzzard. I haven't even mentioned the guests lounge with its real fire. Karen has worked hard to make this place so amazing - not only that but she has fought the vegan fight around town as well, to ensure that guests have choices when eating out around Berwick. Mike even went out of his way to make sure we reached the bus stop on time. What fab people they are. Loaf was a real joy and I can't recommend it enough.
