  • Great atmosphere, few vegan options

This place has a very interesting kitsch decor and is very popular, so you may be up for a long wait during peak times (especially Sunday brunch). They have very few on-the-menu vegan options (only 2 on my last check), which don't appeal to me, but they can do off-menu substitutions and after I discovered the tasty "vegan-version Guy Scramble" (a tofu scramble with avocado and nice seasonings, with home fries), I started to like it better. If you make brunch plans with vegan-hostile omnivores, this is a good choice, but if your friends are vegan-friendly, much better options exist, especially True Bistro (Sat/Sun all-vegan brunch) in Somerville or Veggie Planet (Sunday all-vegetarian brunch with good vegan options) or Veggie Galaxy (breakfast-anytime diner with lots of vegan options) in Cambridge; Veggie Galaxy is not far from The Friendly Toast, maybe 1-1.5 miles (a long walk or short drive). They have an interesting cocktail menu.
