  • Nice restaurant, great service, food just OK

Sufood offers set meals a series of 8 (I think) courses - appetiser, bread sticks, salad, soup, pre-main drink, main, drink & dessert. Although the choices are quite extensive for most courses, being vegan limits the available options considerably. The restaurant is spread over two floors, and has been busy on both occasions. Booking ahead is advisable. The appetiser consists of 3 small portions, two of which were too sweet. One was a type of jelly and the other saw some radish in a blueberry sauce, which was very strong & sweet. The next course was the bread sticks which were fine except that the only vegan dipping sauce was the above-mentioned blueberry sauce. Served with the appetizer was my drink - a fresh tropical fruit juice. As with just about all fruit juice in Taiwan, sugar is added and it cannot be excluded at Sufood as it all pre-made. As such, it was too sweet for me and therefore not very enjoyable. Next was the salad; I ordered a fruit platter which AGAIN arrived with the same blueberry dipping sauce which I couldn't eat. The fruit was delicious except for the apple, which didn;t taste fresh. I tried my wife's salad, which had a very nice sesame sauce. Next up was the soup. I ordered the lotus root soup which was pretty tasty, albeit a little salty. I tried my wife's mushroom soup, which was delicious. Before the main was served we were given a sweet mulberry vinegar drink, which I believe is a Taiwanese specialty and perhaps an acquired taste. The flavour was too strong & sweet for me, and one shot glass was enough. The main was served next, which is one course where vegans have quite a good selection. I ordered the spicy pasta, which was good. Last time, I ordered a mushroom & potato dish, which was also very tasty. Following the mains was the dessert where there is only one vegan option, that being a cup of jelly. Again, far too sweet for me and one mouthful was enough. Overall, Sufood is an enjoyable dining experience with excellent customer service, however the food for me is somewhat disappointing. Many of the courses have limited options for vegans, and some of the flavours are just too strong & sweet for my liking. On the positive side, all of the food is beautifully presented, and the soups & mains taste pretty good.
