- Secret tea room? More like a secret vegetarian pub!
*Original review August 2013: The restaurant is a little odd - you can't just walk upstairs, the bar staff have to call ahead and ask, then you wait and get waved up. I didn't get the fish and chips because I had read really bad reviews on here, so I decided just to get a starter and eat somewhere else later - the summer menu looked that lame. They didn't have the Sunday roast which is why we went there on a Sunday in the first place. I got the beetroot ravioli which was TINY and very expensive, only about four little pieces of ravioli. My partner had the burger and chips which was very nice. For dessert we had the chocolate mousse which had orange on the bottom. It was far too dark in cocoa. The service was very slow and we had to keep asking for our little jug of water to be topped up. *Updated review February 2017: WTF is the secret tea room? Came back to this place and it has been turned into the "secret tea room". We had to ask if they were still doing the vegetarian pub food because they just handed us the tea room menu. We had come here another day previously and even though they opened at 11, they said they wouldn't be serving lunch until 2. So double check they are actually serving food if you're coming for lunch. I ordered the tofish and chips which came with an absurd amount of peas that weren't even hot. As other reviewers have stated, it is just tofu covered in batter, but it still tastes pretty good with the tartare sauce. However if you're expecting delicious vegan "fish", you'll be disappointed. My partner ordered the sausages and enjoyed them. When we asked about the vegan options, there was only one vegan option, even though there were heaps of cakes on display. We ordered this option, the chocolate cake, and it was nice but nothing amazing. They need more vegan dessert options!
