  • Almost entirely vegetarian. Deserves 5 cows.

Almost entirely a vegetarian restaurant with the exception of bacon, but how can you avoid serving this and survive as a totally vegetarian restaurant in Germany? It should really be labeled as a vegetarian restaurant so plant-based diet people know that this among the best option of the "veg-friendly" list on Happy Cow Saarbrucken. [Too, wanted to rate Cafe Knorke higher with "five cows," but Happy Cow doesn't let you rate non-vegetarian restaurants with five cows, so I rated this the highest in its veg-friendly category which is "four cows."] My husband and I both ordered thick American-style vegan pancakes, his with eggs, mine with vegan chocolate, butter and maple syrup. Delicious and filling. I went back for more and ordered the vegan dumpling and cress soup. The dumplings held up and were firm (not soggy at all) and filled with veggies in a salty, yummy broth. It was a decent portion for a soup -- I believe there were about five or six medium/large dumplings in the dish. They also have loose leaf tea, a preference of ours. If you're using Google Maps to pinpoint the address while walking, then don't. We went back-and-forth, up and down the street using the app, until we finally decided to use old school methods and look at addresses on the buildings. It's a nice find in this area of Germany and should be recategorized in a vegetarian class of its own. P.S. I don't think you really have to worry too much about the smell of bacon ruining your vegan/vegetarian meal. Most of the customers around us looked to be eating vegan and vegetarian.
