  • Good for vegetarians, only sufficient for vegans

The location and atmosphere may be what you want, and in that case this is maybe your best option, but it's nothing you should go out of your way for if you're looking for vegan food. Yard House is conveniently located if you're in the shopping/tourist district of Waikiki. The beer selection is amazing. It seems to get quite crowded. We were quoted a 25 minute wait time, but it didn't take that long. It definitely has something of a sports bar feel with all the screens. There's a vegetarian section of the menu dedicated to items made with Gardein brand faux chicken. However, while that brand is vegan-friendly they don't seem to have made any sort of effort to have vegan options on that menu. A few I think are accidentally vegan, those that are more Asian food inspired. It's actually really weird, in 2015, to see a restaurant bend over backwards to have a lot of vegetarian food but completely ignore that vegans exist. I got the lettuce wraps with tofu and mushrooms and the Gardein wings and both were pretty good. If you wanted to press them more on whether other menu items could be veganized, you might have some success. Our server was very good and even double-checked that we had no nut allergies when I order the lettuce wraps, so they may be able to work with you. I'd give it more stars on something like yelp, but given the focus of Happy Cow, I wouldn't rate it any higher than three.
