  • Excellent option in Pittsfield, MA

CLOSING as of December 31st. Flavours is aptly named, as it is an oasis of flavor in an otherwise bland Pittsfield restaurant scene as far as vegans and vegetarians are concerned. The menu lists several vegan options, and also lists dishes where fish is used in the sauce. A nice bonus is the availability of vegan miso soup, as most restaurants use bonito in their recipe. There are lots of gluten-free options as well. We went for dinner on a Wednesday evening, and the restaurant was about half-full. One waitress capably handled them in a very efficient and friendly manner. Entree portions were very generous, with enough leftovers for another meal at home. Spice levels were just as requested, where a 7 means a 7, and not a 10! I ordered the crispy eggplant with ginger and mushrooms, and the eggplant was not too oily, and the ginger really brought out the flavor in the dish. My girlfriend had the vegetable curry with tofu, and her only criticism was that the hot chili peppers should have been diced into smaller pieces. The owner came over to several tables to check on things, as he did for us, and seemed genuinely concerned about our dining experience. Prices are in line with the quality and quantity of food. Our party of three totaled at just under $90, before tip, and we ordered a vegetarian sampler plate, a large Asian salad, three entrees, one dessert, and two cups of tea. This is not a restaurant where you want to rush through your meal. If time pressure is a concern, my suggestion would be to order take out ahead of time. Updated from previous review on 2014-05-22
