This restaurant is good, but not as great as the reviews or the price had led me to expect. I went with a group of six, and the waiters certainly made us feel bad for turning up without a reservation (though it was before peak time), even though it was not as hard as they claimed to find a seat for us. Otherwise, the service was fine. I was the only vegan at the table, and shared the seitan ravioli, which were tasty. My co-diners seemed happy with their salads, although I tried one and found the dressing too strongly flavoured and over-bearing. I was not impressed with my main course (the port wine seitan, which tasted so strongly of wine as to drown out any other flavour, and came with limp cabbage and sickly potato in a deep-fried onion), nor with that of my partner (seitan stroganoff, which was surprisingly bland and stodgy). The desserts were better, with the chocolate ganache and the cheesecake both being very tasty, although the lavender creme brule eaten by a co-diner apparently had no lavender taste at all. Overall, the food was satisfactory, but certainly not the best in NYC, and not worth the price.
