  • Pretentious atmosphere, mediocre food

Alchemy's food is pretty mediocre. If you've never had raw vegan, it could seem better than it is. They are unsuccessful in mastering the great challenges of raw vegan cooking--texture was poor, the nut based creams too heavy, everything was really salty, and a mint-chocolate dessert I tried tasted as if it were simply filled with mint flavored coconut oil. Another point is that there are no Balinese or Balinese-inspired dishes on the menu--odd. The restaurant looks like "Instagram-in-real-life", meaning it feels phony and pretentious. While the food was just "ok", the atmosphere was uncomfortable and shallow. Many patrons were rude, haughty, loud, and imposing. People were parading themselves around as if they wanted everyone to know which level of enlightenment they attained in this morning's yoga class, as well as how much they spent on yoga clothes. It is perhaps more a place to be seen than it is anything else. Felt exclusionary and to cater to elitist tourism.
