  • Glastonbury's wholefood supermarket

Earthfare has now moved up the road to occupy the old Woolworths shop. This is much brighter and more spacious, and you'll love or loathe the change depending on your preference. Personally, I do miss the intimacy of the old, cramped, dark and dingy shop, but I also love the big, airy, open feel of the new shop. Either way, there's no denying that the move offers many advantages: a new bank of refrigerators offers the potential for a far greater selection of foods, and there's now a cafe located at the back of the shop (reviewed under a separate entry). At the time of writing, it does seem that money is a little tight for the owners, since stock levels are consistently low. Many of the shelves and fridges feature items spaced as widely as possible to give the appearance of abundance. Also, it's a shame that no effort seems to have been made to expand the range of veg - especially given the recent loss of the greengrocers over the road. It's still early days though, and it will be interesting to see how things develop in the new shop. It certainly has massive potential.
