- A favorite, and ALL VEGAN
When I first tried this spot in 2009, it was good but too salty and a little over-priced. It was also cash only. The little side salad with my sandwich was awesome and full of little unexpected treats -- flavorful greens, nuts and seeds, dried fruit. Now it's one of my favorites. The Sunday brunch menu is one of the most exciting bits of reading in town. Their savory options like biscuits n gravy, chilaquiles, and various hashes are gorgeous, well-spiced, and just different enough from what's available elsewhere in town to be a treat, but clear one-ups on american traditions to be pure comfort food. Their sweet options like the pancakes (sweet stack has blueberries, strawberries, bananas, and chocolate chips inside, and is topped with chocolate sauce, and the butteriest vegan butter) hit every note perfectly. Desserts, shakes, juices, and tonics are worth visits in themselves. Kombucha with sulphur salt? Mint chip shake? Beet/pineapple/kale/ginger juice? Seriously, any craving, healthy or fat. I returned for lunch recently and was just as impressed with the perfect flavor and spice balances as I've been with brunch. The too-salty sandwich of yore deserves to be forgotten. Everything I've tried at this place in the last seven years has been BOMB.
