- Horribly inconsistent
I feel for this place a little bit. Some of the people are nice enough but I'm not sure they really care about the food they prepare. Perhaps they don't eat it themselves. My wife and I spent 8 days in Hoi An on a work assignment and this was the only vegetarian in a convenient location for us. Because of the location and price we kept on giving it one more go when we should've walked away for good. The inconsistency was the worst aspect. On a couple of occasions we found a simple meal that was OK but the next time we ordered it we received something unrecognisable as the meal we'd eaten the day before. If this place doesn't have the right ingredients, they just leave them out. On one occasion when I'd been eating a passable Pho Chay for a couple of days I ordered it again as was told it "no have". I started to order something else but an argument ensued between the waiter and the chef. The waiter was clearly perplexed but retracted and said "Pho Chay OK". 10 minutes later I was served something inedible that smelled like noodles in dishwater. To my mind it seemed as though they didn't have the broth prepared and the chef just said "Meh, these guys are foreigners, they'll eat anything, don't worry." Who knows.
