- New vegetarian/vegan cafe in West End
I visited V&V on the day after opening day, about 1 pm, and they appeared to be doing good business, with many tables occupied both on the ground floor and upstairs. You order at the counter, then sit down, and the food is brought to you. There are lower prices for takeaway. The menu indicates vegan items with a (V). There were two soups of the day – I had spicy fennel and courgette with a slice of crusty bread and small roll for £3.45. The soup was tasty and nicely spicy. The vegan yogurt parfait sounds really good (with coconut yogurt, granola, coconut blossom syrup, fresh berries and Omega 3 seeds, £5.25). If I were going to still be in Glasgow tomorrow, I would definitely come and try it. Also on the menu: muesli bread with maple syrup and fresh berries, olives and hummus with bread, sandwiches, panini, jacket potatoes (white or sweet) with toppings, coffees (including drip), teas and hot chocolate, plus pastries and cakes, several of which are vegan. I also ordered a sandwich and piece of cake to take away. The sandwich was described as roasted red onion hummus and salad, but the red onions were raw. It was a small piece of good-sounding parsnip and lime cake, which I haven’t tried yet. Non-vegan foods are “free-range” eggs (says the menu) and dairy products from cows that “are set out to pasture nine months of the year” (says the website). Also for sale are cookbooks, children’s books, chocolate bars and special vinegars. I’m sure there will be some growing pains and some learning, but I hope V&V does well.
