  • Wonderful Asian Cuisine catering to veges too!

This place is REALLY good. Yes, it's a chain, but the smells and flavors almost bring me back to the NY Chinatown of my youth. The menu is filled with options and the best part is, that most entrees can be made vegetarian. While tofu used to be the benchmark of veg-friendly places in Israel, Kampai St Wok has gone beyond that, offering tofu AND a Vegetarian soy "meat" analogue. Also, the menu describes the contents of all the dishes and those with eggs, can be made vegan upon request. The main dishes we tried were all good to excellent. The Hanoi Stir Fry with Veggie Chunks was bursting with flavor and I almost licked out the bowl, it was so succulent that my wife who has eaten meat was sure it was meat. The Pad Si Yu with Soy "Meat" was also incredible, with a delicious but subtle flavor and some of the best quasi chow-fun style noodles I've had in Israel. The Kung Pao tofu, didn't quite taste like Kung Pao, but had a gentle kick and lots of flavor. Even our least favorite, the Vegan stir fry with tofu, which came in a dull brown sauce, was still impressive as it had a beautiful medley of fresh veggies cooked up in it including fresh broccoli! The only thing which wasn't so hot were the vegetarian spring rolls, which were kind of small, mushy on the inside, and not worth 15 shekels for 1 egg roll. As an alternative the Malaya salad with a peanuty sauce, tofu, and dried ramen for crunch was quite pleasant. The other complaint I have here is the limited options for veg Sushi, and the unwillingness to go out of the box and put together veggies rolls not on the menu. That being said this is really more of a Chinese/Thai restaurant with sushi just as an extra alternative. Overall, In terms of Asian flavors and stir fry's, this place is way ahead of it's "Sushi (incompetent at cooking tofu) Rechavia", "Station (nothing for vegetarians) 9". Japanika, and other local competitors. Kampai St. Wok's restaurant, is clean & pleasant, with great window seating to people watch. Although it's self serve, the manager Sagiv is very friendly and helpful. The prices of the main dishes are quite reasonable. The Sauces are all unique , flavorful, and fairly authentic. The ingredients they use are varied and fresh, and they go out of their way to make it veg-friendly. By Israel's standards this place is excellent, and if you're looking for a great hot Kosher Vege Asian Meal in Jerusalem, It doesn't get better than Kampai St. Wok, which I highly recommend.
