Walking into the Coven is like walking into a good friend's house for tea. A warm greeting always awaits along with a confirmation of your dietry requirements. As a vegan, I greatly appreciate this and know I will be looked after. The food is all homemade, hearty and delicious. The green soup (loaded with ginger - so warming!) avocado bruschetta and Greek mezze are favourite starters and my favourite main is hands down the Chinese fritters - a must try!!! Delicious vegetable fritters (made with ginger beer!) on a bed of stir-fried noodles, loaded with flavour and veggies. I have also enjoyed many other mains including a delightfully lemony lentil-based curry and a rich and flavourful Moroccan stew, which is served with potatoes - a nice change from couscous. Portions are generous, but being an absolute glutton I always have room for pudding. I absolutely adore the Black Forest sundae, which contains lovely nuggets of chocolate cake amongst ice cream, mixed berries and chocolate sauce. The Coven is BYOB, and before I gave up alcohol I used to always enjoy a bottle of wine with my dinner. These days I make the most of the excellent selection of teas and the dandelion and burdock - which goes down a treat. An absolute treasure of a restaurant, and a welcome oasis for vegans in the areas.
