  • Michelin starred vegetarian restaurant

Nix is one of only two vegetarian/vegan restaurants with a Michelin star in New York. The dining experience here is great. The service was attentive yet unobtrusive. The decor is elegant. The food is original, intense and excellent. There is a vegan menu. The menu is organized by first order, lighter and bolder. Items are meant to be shared. Depending on your appetite, you may want about two items per person. We ordered the roasted sunchokes as a lighter item. Among the bolder, we had the delicate tofu-skin pockets. There were three, accompanied by a lovely salsa. The cauliflower tempura with steamed buns was a hearty dish. We also had roasted mushrooms and the artichoke and broccoli rabe. The special dessert was a tandoor oven baked quarter pineapple with chickpea whipped cream and macadamia nuts - unusual and nice. We greatly enjoyed dinner. My only quibble was that some dishes were too intensely flavored, but that is a matter of personal taste.
