  • Yummy veggie and vegan options

The Flying Aubergine Cafe is a very lovely friendly place, close to, but out of sight of, the consumerist abyss that is central Southampton. It's one of the very few independent cafes / restaurants in Southampton and a refreshing alternative to the dreary, soulless chains overwhelming the rest of the city. And... it has utterly yummy food, including one of the best selections of veggie and vegan options in Southampton. The Mediterranean / Middle Eastern flavour of the menu means that there's lots of delicious options including hummus, falafel, halloumi, ful medames, roast veggie salad and all sorts of other yumminess. Plus there are six (!) veggie/vegan burger options, a range of sandwiches and paninis, and at least a couple of vegan homemade cakes. They serve good coffee and tea and have plenty of beer, wine and other booze. (There are also fishy and meaty options if you're entertaining a carnivore.) The cafe is cosy in the winter and particularly lovely in the summer when you can sit outside and people watch. All year round, it's my favourite place to find yummy vegan munch in Southampton.
