- Brunch too rich for my taste (food not cost)
Based on the overwhelmingly positive HappyCow reviews, I felt obliged to give Blosssoming Lotus a try. I went for a late Sunday brunch. The location and atmosphere are perfectly pleasant and I was able to park on the street without a problem. The service was a bit slow, but it was a busy Sunday brunch and this is to be expected. But I was disappointed by the food. Not that it was bad, per se, but it was very much on the heavy side (more vegan comfort food than health food), with most dishes involving some form of vegan cheese or cream. I don't mind a rich vegan desert, but for my appetizers and main courses I prefer to eat light, and to be able to taste and enjoy the plants I am eating rather than being overwhelmed by heavy sauces. This criticism isn't specific to Blossoming Lotus, I think many vegan chefs fall into the trap of going too far with the sauces -- pouring a bunch of nut butter/cream on a dish does not necessarily make it better (as far as I am concerned, it makes it worse). Next time I'll try their dinner menu, which looks more to my taste.
