I've always been a little intrigued by this place assuming it was two separate places, a Greek restaurant called Athenas and a cafe called Bunters. When it appeared on Happy Cow I went to investigate and realised they share the same premises with Athenas taking over in the evenings. It's not Greek inside at all, rather more like a very traditional English tea room. They have a few vegetarian options such as mezze which could be vegan at a push. Everything looks freshly home made and well prepared. This place does have a good reputation in Hexham and is very popular with locals and visitors. However for vegans, improvements need to be made. Therefore, no vegan cakes for me today, just a cup of char. That's tea if anyone is unsure.
