- Scrumptious vegan fast food by the owners of Vedge!
Sometimes a vegan eatery opens and you know you've found a culinary home. This is what happened last week, when the owners of Vedge and VStreet opened a fast-casual restaurant inside the new Whole Foods Market on Pennsylvania Avenue. The offerings, though limited in number at the moment, are infinitely delicious. The culinary themes range from the Philly-inspired "Wiz Kid Philly," a satisfying take on the traditional Philadelphia cheesesteak made from seitan and mushrooms and topped with an incredible rutabaga wiz, a Korean fried tempeh sandwich, with, with its kimchee tartar sauce is reminiscent of a high-end fish filet, and togarashi fries, tantalizingly spiced and utterly delicious. These are the items I've tried so far and although I don't live in that area of town, my plan is to be there about once a week to sample the other items, including the Wiz Kid chopped salad and the Wiz Fries. Having eaten at Vedge and VStreet, I am grateful for this more affordable casual option in such an accessible place. Additionally, the staff at Wiz Kid are incredibly friendly and helpful. As I munched away, I saw them make every customer feel welcome. Also: Free parking! And you can shop afterward in the new Whole Foods! All good stuff.
