Overview: First time - amazed; second time - disappointed. The first time I went to Kin for breakfast, I went home absolutely raving about it and told my partner that he had to accompany me next time. With Kin closed on the weekends this just wasn't an option unfortunately. I have had vegan tofu eggs in several different places and they've never been memorable or exciting... but I had the polenta eggs at Kin and oh my goodness I don't think I can rave about them enough. The flavour was amazing and not the easiest to replicate at home (unlike all tofu eggs I've ever had). I added avocado which I would recommend others do too (though I am just generally obsessed with avocados). My vegetarian friend got the mexican style eggs and was happy with his choice. My non-dairy latte was curdled (can't remember if it was soy or almond) but I was fine overlooking this as I was thoroughly enjoying my polenta and I know that a lot of people struggle with getting non dairy milk to look good in a latte. Fast forward to Kin announcing they would be open on Saturday! I was so excited and made my partner come with me. They didn't have the polenta eggs on their Saturday Brunch menu so I went for the "Vegan Pot Roast" while my vegetarian partner went for the savoury pancake. Neither of us were happy with our food. The vegan pot roast had listed what would be in it (potato, mushroom, tomato...) but I thought that these would be the sides and the main thing would be some vegan take on a pot roast. The main element was a giant slab of american style hash browns. And everything was smothered in this cream with tons of dill that started to make me feel a bit sick halfway through my food. The staff were lovely and they did offer me a free juice when something went awry causing the kitchen to not see my order until my partner was halfway through his. But given how few people were in there maybe they could've figured out something was up sooner? My partner has no desire to return. I might try again in hopes of recreating my first experience there. (Maybe their baked goods are where it's at?)
