- Nice place for vegan dinner in main location
Maitrea was the only restaurant suitable for having a vegan dinner in Prague that I have been to. Is it located within a one minute walk from the old town square and astronomical clock tower. Very nice atmosphere and a lot of room (two floors). It was very easy to understand from the menu which courses are vegan and which can be made vegan with a slight change. We were four and ordered the Maitrea starter which is basically a combination of all the starters. It was very delicious but the plating was horrible. Then we ordered the paella, the Kong pau and the burger. All were good except for the Kong pau (the rice was dry and the tofu was bland). Do not order the homemade ice tea, it's flavorless. For dessert we ordered a chocolate cake, an apple strudel and this blueberry caramel cake. The best was the chocolate cake, the apple strudel wasn't that good and the blueberry caramel dessert was nice but not amazing. Also, I ordered this chocolate vanilla tea which was great, plus it was served in this huge cup which was very fun :) The service was excellent and it was really cheap (about 1,400Cz including drinks and tip). Note that the kitchen closes at 22.00 although it says in their website the restaurant is open till 23.30. Also, it is really difficult to contact Maitrea. It took them two days to reply to the email and Facebook message we sent. Also they didn't answer when we called the restaurant from a Czech Guy's phone, and it wasn't possible to make a reservation on their website.
