  • Expensive and disappointing.

My partner and I had 2 courses for £19.50 each and one soft drink and a coffee, plus a service charge was added to our bill, taking the bill to £50. I had something (I can't remember the name) served on a slate, 3 rolls of aubergine with chopped nuts(?) inside, on a bed of soya yoghurt and a sprinkling of pomegranate seeds. It was very bland. My partner had the lentil soup which apparently was very good, but served a little cool for her liking. I had the surf'n'turf as a main which was nearly a whole aubergine with some kind of reduction served on top, it was incredibly bland, it was hard to cut through with the cheap knife, the potatoes it was served with were nice enough, but the seaweed(?) side was lovely and there was just enough to spread on the incredibly dull aubergine. The tempura samphire was a nice touch aesthetically but had lost its flavour. Nutritionally the meal is mainly water and clearly not considered. I would also apply the same non-consideration to flavour. I've never paid so much and had something so dull. My partner had 'fish and chips', she had the vegan option so it was fried smoked tofu in batter with a small basket of chips. The 3 pieces of tofu looked great on the plate with small dollops of mustard, I have zero idea why you'd serve mustard though. It makes no sense. The smoked flavour of the tofu was minimal so made for a bland main with an incongruous condiment. The chips were double fried, so no potato flavour, just oil. This is the worst review I've had to leave on Happy Cow, I feel genuinely sad about it. I want to be able to support every vegetarian/vegan business, but it's more important to let other would-be customers know of how their experience could go.
