  • Jamaican/Soul Food with LOVE!

Even if you aren't vegan, you should at least give this place a try! Tampa doesn't have a lot of options for vegans, so we were so happy to have found this lovely little restaurant. When we first came in, Jean (one of the owners) greeted us with a warm welcome. The atmosphere is nice and friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable and they even have a little shop that you can buy vegan items. This is helpful for newer vegans, or people who are interested in changing, because it gives options to those who have difficulty with knowing where to start with vegan food. The menu is simple, but delicious. They offer soy based proteins and you can choose from curry, jerk, BBQ soy "earth", "ocean" protein or tofu. Then you pick your sides. We started with the homemade hummus and chips, and the spring rolls. The hummus was really good and so were the spring rolls! I got the collard greens, mac 'n cheese and potato salad. All were very good, personally, I would amp up the flavor in the mac n' cheese a little more, but it was still good. My husband got the "ocean" protein and it was delicious. I also had the natural ginger pineapple juice, very good. We got the soy cheesecake for dessert, which was also very yummy. The flavors for the day were key lime, coconut, or blueberry. I couldn't finish, I was happily full! The service was excellent and personable, it's was only Jean and her husband, Garnett working, so it was a very intimate experience. Jean was great to us, attentive and I felt like I was at grandma's house, eating a down home meal. After eating, we chatted with Jean and Garnett for a few moments, I can tell that they love what they do and that they are truly interested in helping to introduce people to a healthier way of living and eating. They were so friendly and down to earth, I would absolutely recommend Just 4 U Vegan to anyone who is in the area or just visiting. Jean even told us to make sure that we were honest in our review, because there is always room for improvement. I guess the only suggestion that I would have as a restaurant goer, is the lighting in the restaurant. I'm a person who doesn't really do well with fluorescent lighting, so to me the lighting is kind of harsh, I personally would enjoy softer lighting, but that's just me. My husband also agreed about the lighting, but that doesn't take away from the excellent food and delightful service. So, if you're looking for plant-based options, this is your place!
