  • Mediocre acai bowl

We love getting acai, usually at least one day a weekend for breakfast. Since moving to Santa Monica, we've found lots of great acai in the surrounding area (West Hollywood, Manhattan Beach, Pacific Palisades...), but despite the amount of options in Santa Monica, have struggled to find one we really love here! Nekter is in a well-located spot near Third Street Promenade. It has a very healthy, hip vibe to it, with advertisements for their juice cleanses and their benefits hanging on the walls. There's a large juice menu, as well as a large acai bowl menu, with some interesting looking creations (and calories posted next to each - your "healthy" juice no longer looks so healthy!). My husband and I both got the basic berry acai bowl. He thought the bowls looked on the smallish side, so we ordered three to split. At about $7.50 each, they're well-priced if you just get two of them. It turned out two likely would have been enough. The acai itself was just okay - not nearly as sweet as other acai bowls we've had. They were a bit busy when we went too, but our bowls weren't blended great. There were some large, chunky pieces of frozen fruit still in the mix. As I alluded to above, there was a good amount of acai and granola in each bowl - I'd asked them to go light on granola, and it was still a good bit! There was a mix of banana, blueberries and strawberries on top, and again, they didn't skimp here either. While agave was in the mix, it would have been nice to have the option to get honey on top at the end, as this would have added a nice touch of sweetness. Overall, service was friendly enough. We maybe spent eight minutes eating in the shop, and we parked outside and had put 30 minutes on the meter, but used the whole 30, so it wasn't necessarily the quickest. Given the amount of availability of acai in the area, we likely won't be back too soon.
