- Good option for vegan or vegetarian in Kyoto
Went here a few times during a recent trip to Kyoto as the location was central. Some of the other places I tried on Happy Cow were closed and were a further bus commute. Cosme Cafe is a vegetarian friendly cafe that serves meat. Located in JR Kyoto station B2F. Vegan choices such as soy minced meat bolognese, keema curry, millet salads are offered. Drinks include organic tea and coffee. My total for my set meal was 1,350 yen. As a vegan abroad in Japan dealing with a language barrier in a culture where fish products are in most things it helps to be in a vegetarian friendly restaurant where the items that are vegetarian are clearly labeled plus the cafe uses organic veggies. Staff were friendly and the combination meal costs a bit more to bump up a herbal tea instead of caffeine yet find this is worth it.
