- Wonderful Caribbean food
I accidentally found this little gem of a place whilst shopping for fruit and veg in Cheapside Market. Above the market is a row of huts serving inexpensive takeaway lunches (although there is some seating). The cafe is called Vegetarian but is actually completely Vegan and is run by a couple who make everything fresh daily. Outside of lunchtime 12-2ish there is a hot display on the counter containing takeaway snacks of patties, pasties, soy sausages and sweet potato/breadfruit slices (delicious). Hot lunch is served from bain maries and a selection of stews, pies, local vegetables, rice and peas and sauces, served with steamed veg and salad. The salad is very tasty and contains fresh herbs and even dandelion leaves. It is clear that lots of love has gone into the preparation. And to top it off the girl who runs the place is delightful and happy to go through all the ingredients, she even grinds all the spices herself. A hearty lunch here is only B$10! I recommend getting there early, before 1pm, at lunchtime as food sells out quickly. Updated from previous review on Friday January 29, 2016
