- So disappointed...
I came here wanting to love this place. I had been following the people behind this restaurant since they had stated Saku Kobo but I'm sad to say that I was so disappointed with this cafe but I feel I should probably let them and others know why. First off, let's start with Veganic, or what is commonly known as vegan permaculture. This store twists the common definition as vegan + macrobiotic, which I found confusing. Just a little nitpick there I must admit. But what really let this place down was the food. While it looks good, and they even claim on a sign "Best Veg Burger in the Universe," I would have to disagree with them. First, the burger is too big to eat properly. I ordered the tartar burger since it sounded unique and good, but it was served in a bowl with a paper at the bottom which became soggy. As I had no choice but to eat this with a knife and fork I probably ended up eating some of the paper too. The flavour of the burger was nothing special, and the addition of cabbage in the burger just really didn't work unfortunately. It was bland, and not impressive. Considering how difficult it was to eat, I really can't say anything good about it. My fiance got the gluten-free option of Coconut spice Curry DON. It came in a drink cup first of all, which might have been convenient had we ordered our food to go, but as we ate at the restaurant it wasn't good. It was difficult to eat a curry in layers as you may imagine as the cup is full it's difficult to stir in the curry and rice and vegetables together without spilling it on yourself so you end up eating some vegetables on top and then some rice on the bottom and not together. A poor presentation unfortunately. Finally, we ordered a side of onion rings which were alright, but were only served about a tablespoon of ketchup for the whole basket. It was expensive for the amount it was, and considering the quality of the food was far overpriced I felt. Again, I really wanted to love this place as I used to drool over the food at Saku Kobo but this was a real let down. I also got a feeling this place was more about health than about the exploitation of animals which was kind of a bummer to me. Sadly this experience made us weary of other veg restaurants but luckily our other experiences were all positive. Update 07APR16 I have removed comments about the spices and corn after the response from Veganic to go as they were just conjectures to begin with.
