- life takeaway deli
decided to try something different for lunch other than liza veggies and happy veggies. went with a hkd65 box of salad, choosing from three out of six pre-made options. (these for some reason were not labelled, while other items in the refrigerated counter were labelled gluten-free/vegan, with ingredients detailed. i later found out that there were labels, but they were stuck on at the back instead. strange!) i'm vegetarian but out of curiosity and just for fun asked the service staff which of these salad options were vegan. she clearly knew her stuff, telling me that one of them contained feta cheese, and when i ended up choosing that one, reiterated that it was not vegan and if i was okay with that. because everything is tightly packed into a small box, i found the flavours rather mishmashed. one of the dressings (for the asian noodles) seemed to my imagination to veer on the threshold of "left too long outside", but when i asked after the meal, i was assured that food was prepared at 5 am that day and that it was probably the lemon causing the sour taste (that said, i will probably order something else next time). the broccoli and beans were a bit too al dente than what i'm normally used to (i don't know if that's intentional health-wise) and i also found the design of the salad box a little high and user-unfriendly. gripes aside, though it was "just" a salad, i was kept full till dinnertime. overall i found it a very relaxing respite, if you don't mind sitting on a high stool facing the wall. for those on a budget, there are hkd30 tofu sandwiches and the like, but i don't know if that will be enough for heavier eaters.
