  • Refreshing change in Trindad's culinary landscape

There aren't many places in Cuba that consider vegetarians by offering dedicated dishes (other than meat-free side dishes), less still ones that offer dishes from different parts of the world with flavours not commonly found in the country. Sol y Son is a rare exception, with an 'Oriental Menu' that offers a delicious choice of a dry veggie curry, a fresh chick-pea curry in a creamy sauce and, la piece de resistance, a mouth-watering eggplant curry. While it may not be 100% authentic Indian, it is at least a brave attempt to offer something meat-free, different and tasty - and it succeeds wonderfully in just that. The ambience of the place is also charming - an old house (with beds and grand furniture still dotted around the rooms) and a beautiful courtyard that would be the perfect place to propose. Prices are reasonable, servers attentive (though very limited in their English) and there's even a delicious choice of lassi drinks available if you really want the Indian experience. Yum!
