- Lovely Serene Cafe
I had dinner here while in Cambodia, and I adored the place. The atmosphere and decor is very relaxing, especially the indoor-outdoor concept and everything inside (fair trade souvenir shop, yoga studio, cooking classes, etc.). I liked that the souvenir shop showed local institutions that made the goods for sale. Even though I came during a very heavy rainfall, I still enjoyed dining on the comfy outdoor chairs. I love how the message of activity and forgiveness is displayed in a gentle fashion; it really adds to the peaceful vibe. The non-vegan menu items were clearly listed at the front of the menu, and there were plenty of vegan options for all meals of the day! I like that the menu stated that they don't pre-heat or pre-cook foods; everything is made fresh to order. I ordered the carrot zinger juice, local coffee, sweet potato and pumpkin crisps, vegetarian amok (light curry), and sesame seed balls in ginger syrup. The juice was nice and fresh. The crisps didn't seem greasy or salty at all, which I loved. The curry was by far my favourite -- not overpowering in any flavour, packed with turmeric, and served with brown rice and fresh cucumbers. I liked the dessert as well. It was the perfect balance between sweetness and texture and flavour. The only downside was that the coffee I ordered came with dairy milk instead of soy (probably because the rain was too loud to hear my request for "soy milk"!), but it wasn't a big deal; it was fine black :) Overall, I'd definitely recommend Peace Cafe for dining, shopping, and even a class or two, if you're in Cambodia long enough!
