  • many veggie and vegan choices

When abroad, I usually seek out the local veggie restaurants/cafes though a local place that gives us a choice of at least 2 or 3 main courses is always welcome. Gaia Bar screams its orientation at us. No shocks to find a menu of many veggie and vegan choices. Place was a bit quiet and it seemed to be mostly tourists/ visitors in. Maybe more needs done to attract locals? First of, they had virtually no wine in. All the cavas were gone and only one out of 4 white wines remained. Highlight of the starters was the beetroot Salmoreja. It was excellent - local cuisine with an interesting twist. The main courses were ok. We had the falafel and the taboleh with seitean. It was all passable. We were disappointed that there were no 'extras'. As the food was quite dry, some sauce would've been nice. A local fresh salsa? Or even just some jars or olive oil and vinegar that any bog standard tapas bar has? The local wine was heavy but delicious. No complaints there though it's strange that there was only ONE white or cava available. We were miffed though to be charged for the 'complimentary' basket of bread and crackers that we were given without requesting. Not fair. Simple. The decor is ok. Lastly, the menu was mostly their interpretations of foreign dishes. How about concentrating on local cuisine? Not all Andalucian/ Spanish food is about meat. Show it off please.
