- Organic Vegan-Friendly Place
Short walk from Chiba Station. We stayed in Chiba for a couple weeks, and went to Hitsukiya several times. It's VERY easy to get vegan options there. And it's all organic and local as much as possible. The service is very nice, and the restaurant is clean and the portions are good. For lunch they have vegan curry option with extra veggies, veggie katsu or mushrooms as add-ons. The curry set comes with a good portion of delicious curry topped with organic seasonal veggies, a side salad and a small tofu-thingy, it's creamy and delicious, it's sort of a mini-dessert, although it's not too sweet, but tasty. The curry itself is about 980 yen, and each add-on is about 200-250 yen, so the prices are good, and all of that is 100% plant-based and says so on the menu. Another vegan lunch option is veggies... For dinner they have 2 kinds of nabe (hot pot) white and red, and other vegan options like pizza, gratin, and veggie katsu with salad. Although they serve some fish, they are very plant-based aware, so communicate it to them to be on the safe side, and enjoy your meal with confidence your vegan requests were respected. The only thing I didn't like about Hitsukiya was their music choice: american R&B which was a bit loud for me, and not my music choice for meal time... They are open Tue-Sun, 11:30-2:30, and 5:30-9. Closed Mondays.
