  • Friendly, good food, but expensive

I went to The Beautiful Mountain Cafe with my partner for lunch a few weeks ago. It's quite easy to find as it's in the city centre. First impression was how popular it was. We nearly had to wait for a table but fortunately one came free just after we arrived. It felt a bit cramped, having to squeeze by staff and other customers to get to our table. Not an amazing choice for vegetarians and especially vegans. The staff were knowledgeable about what's suitable which was very helpful - it's always reassuring when you don't have to spend five minutes explaining what you can and can't eat! The soup we went for turned out to be unavailable, then a few minutes later we were told that the sandwich filling I'd gone also wasn't available that day either. I ended up having the bean pate sandwich instead while my partner had the avocado and pepper sandwich. Both were served with a good salad. We both agreed the sandwiches were reasonably nice, a fairly good size, though expensive. The staff were very apologetic about the soup and the original choice of sandwich filling being unavailable, so kindly only charged us for one sandwich plus drinks. Friendly place, reasonable food, but not cheap.
