  • A vegan izakaya

Hangout is a small izakaya with izakaya-worthy food. Nice staff, nice atmosphere, tables and chairs spaced well, chairs comfortable enough (I am a stickler for comfortable chairs). Wasn't exactly crowded when we were there - only one other party. But since the place is small we didn't mind it. This way the service was fast! As for the food, it's pretty good, typical izakaya fare but veganized, something that is sorely needed in this city. It's fun and most certainly not health food. The quality and creativity is a good notch above many other places and on par with T's I would say. What I really appreciate is that they seem to like experimenting with new dishes. Yes!! Please continue! Try something new every month! Get some recipe books from overseas, too, escape the group think that bogs down so many vegan restaurants in this town!! We had maybe ten dishes (we're big guys) and a few beers each. Liked everything but esp the gaudi salad, the cashew/cucumber dish, the spaghetti in a mushroom/hemp sauce and the wasabi coated "meat" nuggets. Set us back 12,000 but I think that's on the high end of what two people could drop in this place. Well, if you drink wine you may be able to top this but otherwise it's hard to imagine. This would be a great place to book out for a small party. Nice one!
