- Native Foods Penn Quarter
I am so glad Native Foods (NF) is FINALLY in DC, with more than one location to boot :) I first had NF in Chicago November 2012, and one of their employees told me then that they were coming to DC soon. About 2 years later the locations opened up! I was waiting for their mind-blowing Reuben, which tastes exactly how I remember animal-product laden Reuben's to taste like. I've basically had all their menu items. They do vegan casual dining/junk food really well; if you haven't had vegan fried anything in a while, indulge here!! Items that are fried "chicken" related have a nice crunch. Their bowls are VERY substantial and come piled with veggies. The twister wraps and the club sandwich are good. Monthly meal specials are usually delicious. Their nachos are bomb, as are ALL their desserts. If you are a peanut butter fan, you absolutely must get their peanut butter parfait -- it's to die for and quite a large serving. Their chocolate cupcakes are also suuuuuper rich and fudgey, and not too big. This NF is smaller than the one in Dupont Circle, but there is still plenty of room to sit (except maybe during the work-week lunch rush).
