- Okay, but overrated
First of all, this is diner food, which I generally avoid at this point in my life. Back when Lost City was in the process of opening (then closing, then reopening, it was quite a saga...), I was pretty excited, mainly about the vegan ice cream treats, which are still near-impossible to come by at Baltimore restaurants. Seriously, when is someone going to open a vegan soft-serve joint? Still waiting on that. Anyway, the vegan food at Lost City is decidedly unhealthy: fried food, mock meats, etc. The fact that the owner shut down Zodiac next door in part to focus on this joint still burns me up. Zodiac was so good! And the food was much better, with much healthier options. That place was the perfect balance of casual and upscale ambiance-- a restaurant where a vegan couple could take their meat-eating parents for a nice dinner and everyone would be equally pleased with their delicious, inventive meals (including dessert!). Zodiac is near the top of the list of restaurants I miss most in Baltimore. But I digress... Going to Lost City is an experience. But the food is unfortunately not the primary component of that experience. I've also encountered poor service, messed up orders, and unadvertised stock-outs of food. It's usually very busy. Last time my girlfriend and I went we were jammed in on stools at the already packed counter. The time before that we were seated at a tiny table in the middle with wait staff constantly squeezing by on both sides. Honestly, if you can't get a booth, it might not be worth going at all during peak hours.
