- Very disappointing! We will not be going back...
I went with 6 friends in Rio de Janeiro, and it was, unfortunately, the worst experience that I've had in the city in over 10 years of coming regularly to Brazil (and having lived in Rio for two of those). We were all excited to try this new restaurant, and thought that the menu looked interesting, and were excited by the vegan options on menu (two of us are vegan). To start, we ordered the "cesta de pães veganos" (the basket of vegan breads). The bread arrived (with 4 sauces/dips on the side). It looked great, but we just wanted to confirm with the server that the breads indeed were vegan. The server confirmed, and then upon my first bite, I tasted the undeniable flavor of egg (which I hadn't eaten in years). I was wary, and asked another server if the breads were indeed vegan (as the menu option we'd selected said they were). This server told us (in Portuguese) that "all the breads are vegan, but some have just a little bit of egg." Not a good start... The same with the sauces...they said initially all were vegan, but we later found out that one of them was not. We had to ask for the manager to come to the table, and upon asking him if the breads were vegan, he said that only one of the three breads we'd received were vegan, and that not all the sauces were vegan either. Incredibly, instead of apologizing, the manager placed the blame on us, saying "Aqui não é um restaurante vegano..." ("This is not a vegan restaurant..."), so we had no right to complain. It was laughable at this point because we didn't make any special request for "vegan bread," but it was already on the menu!! I had to fight to get the manager to change the breads, and also to take it off the bill! He said he would, and, as expected, the charge for our non-vegan bread still appeared on the check. We, again, had to speak with the manager. Lastly, the food is phenomenally overpriced for what it is. Tasteless, vapid, and dull... The "Tomado caprese" was ~27 reais, and was indeed vegan. But, it was literally slices of tomato with olive oil and the most tasteless, under-seasoned macadamia cheese we have ever had. The vegan pasta: spaghetti with leeks and minimalist veggies...nothing we couldn't do better at home. Finally, the ceviche I thought tasted really good, but my partner (from Rio) was extremely disappointed with the flavors. All in all, we do not recommend. Pomar Orgânico's Facebook page confirms others' dissatisfaction with this bad restaurant.
