  • Potential- However, limited selection and pricey.

Cuenca is definitely in need of some vegan friendliness, in addition to fairtrade goods, and it's a relief to find a place with a specialist selection. However there is a lack of product variety; Such as nut butters (I only saw one brand of almond, that was over 6 euros for a small jar), no pots of hummus, no breads (there were only a few packets of pita available) and I didn't see any vegan cheeses on offer. I was looking for fairtrade coffee in particular; but the only jar was 11 euros!! I liked that they had some fresh fruit for sale, and other goods such as clothes, bags and little ethically produced ornaments. However the large Auchan store, part of Alcampo, has a bio-aisle which I feel has a better selection of products; tofu, soy cheeses and a colossal range of milk alternatives (soy, rice, almond, oat etc)- All at a much cheaper price. But it's always nice to support the smaller independent places- so I try to buy a product from 'Comercio Justo y Ecologico' every now and then. What I also find strange about this place, is its lack of self-promotion; The sign is not obvious, or indicative of its products and ethical stance, and the lights always appear to be switched off, even when the shop is actually open.
