- Strong on faux meat, a bit weak on veggies
We've been to Slimbo's 3 or 4 times and have enjoyed it well enough but we don't really feel it's worth going far out of the way to eat there. Why? Two main reasons: 1. While their fauxtein (mock 'meat') dishes are quite well done, we found that they don't seem to have the same finesse with honest vegetable dishes. We haven't been impressed with any of the straight vegetable offerings. 2. It's not very vegan-friendly for those who can't speak a reasonable amount of Thai. The menu doesn't clearly indicate which dishes are vegan, and in our (limited) experience none of the (very kind) staff have spoken English fluently enough to be able to confirm which dishes were definitely vegan, so we took a few leaps and it was usually fine but a couple of times we got something with mayo or cheese. That said, there are some very sweet people who work there who try very hard to please and they do pull off some quite good fauxtein dishes. So, in short, we'd say it's certainly worth a try if you're in the neighborhood, but not necessarily worth making a special trip (especially for vegans).
