- Just okay. I may try it again but probably not.
Ever so often Dayton gets a new restaurant. Wheat Penny took over the original Coco's Bistro space and they filled it out well. I got excited about a new option in town so me and my boyfriend visited a few weeks ago. Tyler (non-vegan) ordered the eggplant fries as a app and the Mr. White pizza. He said the fries were terribly salty (too salty to actually eat, and he doesn't watch his sodium intake.) He told the server about it and the server said it wasn't a problem to remake them with less salt. They came out again and Tyler said they tasted exactly like the ones before. So that was a huge bummer since everyone around town was boasting how good they were. He said the pizza was tasty. I ordered a build my own pizza with a gluten free crust and a very "light" dusting of the daiya cheese (I find it highly over powering and just need a little for flavor) however when the pizza arrived, there was a healthy portion of daiya cheese ironically layered around the pizza despite my request. I didn't send it back because I was ravenous and just wanted to eat. It was just okay. Really, for a $18 pizza I would hope it was meet my expectations, alas it left me with an anti-climatic feeling. I may give Wheat Penny another chance and try the cauliflower T-bone, but I have a sneaky suspicion that I can make better food than the chefs they hired. I am not touting my own horn, just want my reviews to be as transparent as possible.
