Every time you pay with a credit card that business pays 1.5 to 3.5% to the credit card company. In order for the business to take credit cards they need a processor (like Square) and that processor takes another 2.5%. As someone who has owned a couple of small businesses I can say that the amount of money that it takes to take credit cards adds up quickly. Let’s say that their average check per person is 330MXN and they have 20 guests a day. 33,000MXN a week. 1,716,000MXN a year. At 5% processing fees that’s 85,800MXN per year in credit card fees. That’s roughly $4,500 US that it costs them each year to take credit cards. Help small businesses out by paying in cash when possible.
